NOTES TO HELP
YOU ORDER
It is most important to give exact measurements between
existing walls or wood posts - we make all allowances for
hinges etc. Please use steel tape.
STEEL POSTS
If you are ordering our steel posts please give exact
opening that gates and posts have to fill. eg 3' opening
plus a pair of 2" posts will require an opening if 3' 4".
LATCH POSITION
On single gates when looking at the front of the gate
from the road, which side do you require the latch, left or
right?
On double gates the latch is normally on the right hand gate
looking from the road unless requested otherwise.
MATERIAL SPECIFICATION
On 3' high single and double gates up to 8' 6" the outer
frame is 1" x 1/4" (25mm x 6mm). On 9' pairs and larger and
on side entrance gates we use 1" x 3/8" (25mm x 10mm).
Internal bars on all Thornton designs are 3/8" round (10mm).
All other gates have 3/8 square bars.
Frames of all larger gates i.e. 12' x 3' and 8' x 5' pairs
and larger are made from heavy gauge 1" square hollow
section. This makes them stronger and more rigid and lighter
in weight.
All materials are hand straightened before assembly and
afterwards cleaned and then fully immersed in a tank of
black oxide paint to ensure good protective coating or can
be supplied gal vanised at extra cost. Quotation by return.
SPECIAL SIZES CREATE NO PROBLEMS FOR US
If your opening falls between stock sizes these can be
made specially for you, the cost will be the same as the
next larger size.
